As the seasons begin to change, so does our daily life, homes and routines. Organizing your home for fall before the season is in full swing helps you get and feel ready. This is a perfect time to reflect, restore and prepare for the upcoming season. The transition from summer to fall is a particularly important one. Our wardrobes likely change and we have a lot of holiday prep quickly approaching.

Let’s take a look at the three spaces you can give a little attention now that will make a big impact on getting your home fall season ready. Starting now will give you the time you need to focus on your key spaces without feeling stressed and overwhelmed. And no one likes that feeling, right?

Closets

As you begin your seasonal wardrobe switch, take a few extra minutes to also do a quick declutter of your spring and summer items. This is a great time to do this. You should be able to easily spot and remove the items you didn’t enjoy wearing or maybe didn’t wear at all. We all have them! This helps not only clear out the clutter from your closet, but also frees up your storage space. Don’t switch out your wardrobe for the season? You can still declutter and remove the spring or summer items you no longer want, use or wear. Fall and winter wear tends to be bulkier so you will likely need the extra space. Don’t forget to include your shoes in this process. Those cozy winter boots will need a prime spot to live in your closet for the next several months.

Kitchens

This “heart of the home” really begins to shine over the next few months. Now is the time to take a peek inside your kitchen cabinets and drawers. A few items that you can quickly declutter to give yourself more space are small appliances you don’t use (hello mini waffle maker!), duplicate utensils, broken or chipped dishes and worn out dish towels or oven mitts. Generally speaking if an item is taking up valuable space in your kitchen and you don’t need, use or want it then it’s time to let it go. After decluttering, you can now organize and maximize your cabinet and drawer space. Use drawer dividers, expandable shelves, turntables and other organizing products. And just like that your kitchen is ready for all of the holiday baking and cooking!

Mud Room/Entryway

Whether you have a dedicated mud room or just want to optimize your entryway to catch all of the “outside” items (and maybe the dirt, leaves and grass) at the door, this space will need a little fall prep too. With the cooler months ahead the footwear and outwear tends to get bigger and bulkier. This requires a little more space. Not to mention the daily bookbags and lunch boxes. Create a place to hang coats and jackets, hooks for bags, labeled bins for smaller items and a shoe shelf near your primary entrance. You can also add a waterproof mat to catch those wet, dirty shoes that may be carrying mud, leaves and grass on rainy or snowy days. This will make all the difference in keeping these items neatly organized and where they belong, which is definitely not on your couch, dining room table or scattered about on your floor.

Setting aside a little time now to leisurely work through these spaces will make a hugh difference. Your home will be set up for a smooth transition to fall and you will feel calm, cool and collected you feel as you ready yourself for the incoming hustle and bustle!
